The BPY eighth grade class had an amazing time on their trip to Washington DC! Their first stop was a kayaking adventure on the Gunpowder River. The students kayaked and paddle boarded around and had a blast splashing swimming and participating in team building activities. That evening, they attended a Nationals/Mets baseball game. The game was a nail biter but the Mets won by one run! The next day was jam packed—students were up with the sun, so they could make their exclusive tour at the White House. They saw hundreds of years of true American history. Did you know that there were specific china dishes for each president during their term?! Thank you to Micha Block’s aunt for providing this opportunity for the students.
Next they headed over to the Holocaust museum. Students were very interested in experiencing the exhibits seeing that they completed their “Names not Numbers©” program. Some of the students even had the opportunity to speak to a survivor. After a quick lunch in the Sculpture Gardens, they headed over to the Capitol building to meet with Mike Fragoso, the chief counsel to Senator Mitch McConnell. The students had a once in a lifetime opportunity to sit in the Senator’s hideaway where they were able to ask questions about the Senate, politics and current events. A special thank you to the Mitrani family for facilitating this meeting. Students also received a tour of the Capitol building. The wonderful evening event was a dinner cruise on the Potomac River and the final day was spent at Six Flags— what a perfect way to end the trip!
