BPY Holds Superhero Costume Design Challenge

The seventh graders had been waiting with anticipation for the seventh grade chemistry unit, in which they explore the development of the atomic theory and the elements of the periodic table. Each year, the culminating project for this unit is the infamous superhero costume design challenge. This assignment consists of students choosing an element from the periodic table, researching the chemical and physical properties of this element, creating a superhero character whose powers and weaknesses represent characteristics of element and then designing and making a costume for this superhero. All in all there were 22 superheroes, such as Kapton Krypton, Radon Ranger and Broman, whose powers range from emitting nuclear energy from fingertips (Uranium) to curing bone cancer (Radium). BPY is so lucky to have these superheroes around to keep everyone safe, with the possible side effect of making us all radioactive!
