This year, the BPY elementary school students created beautiful centerpieces for a special Veterans Day Ceremony that took place at the Veterans Memorial Home in Paramus. The children wrote and decorated beautiful notes that were incorporated into the patriotic centerpieces. Everyone hopes that the veterans will continue to enjoy the centerpiece plants, even after the special program, as a token of appreciation for all that they did for our country. On Friday, the elementary school children showed their patriotism once again as they proudly wore red, white and blue. The school community came together to show hakarat hatov to the heroic American soldiers who served our country. After singing the National Anthem, Mrs. Maron helped the students understand the meaning behind Veterans Day and then she read, “Hero Dad,” by Melinda Hardin. This simple yet powerful story highlighted how those that serve are a special kind of superhero. The assembly ended with a beautiful speech by a veteran who explained what the American flag means to veterans and how it’s a source of pride to see it flying high.
