BPY Middle School ‘Retreats’ to Kehilat Kesher

Ben Porat Yosef middle school students took a trip to Kehilat Kesher in Englewood on Tuesday, February 28, as an offsite retreat to learn more about the relevance of tefillah to their lives, gaining fresh and inspired perspectives throughout the day. They discussed how to connect deeply with the words that they pray each day, and how tefillah should be viewed as more than about just themselves and their own needs, but also about the people around them and all over the world. They talked about how they might be able to effectively advocate for their friends and families with their prayers. The students split into smaller discussion groups to participate in activities that further demonstrated the power of tefillah, incorporating elements of team-building exercises and artistic expressions of those pesukim that particularly resonated with them, and elucidating the concept of the individual and the larger community as they relate to tefillah.
