These past two weeks at BPY, students have been hard at work preparing for the Winter Physics Olympics Discovery Learning Day event. Students were challenged to either build aerodynamic miniature bobsleds to race down a model bobsled track or to build a ski jump that would maximize the distance a lego figure could “fly in the air. Students were tasked to use their understanding of physics to create successful models that would be competing against each other on the culminating celebration of DLD. The students’ experience was enhanced by the visit of three Israeli Olympian athletes, AJ Edelman (competed for Israel in the 2018 Olympics skeleton race), Galit Chait (Israeli figure skating athlete and coach) and a junior Olympian athlete from Israel. BPY was so honored to have been able to meet these athletes and hear their stories about becoming Olympians.
