In Rav Yaakov’s Moledet class, BPY middle schoolers were tasked with a long term project of planning a trip to Israel from start to finish. The students worked collaboratively in small groups. Each group was given a budget and the students had to research places of interest, map out an itinerary, purchase airline tickets, book lodging and plan transportation. How much is an airplane ticket? How much is a liter of gas? Is it more economical to take public transportation or to rent a car? It was an amazingly rich experience incorporating many different life skills including budgeting, understanding of the geography of Israel, map reading, logistics and listening to the opinions of their classmates. The project was completed and presented all in Hebrew, of course. Wow! BPY students hope to take a trip for real one day.
