Ben Porat Yosef pre-k students engaged in a variety of experiential learning activities designed to enhance the meaning of Pesach for them. The classes baked both challot and matzot this week in order to learn the distinguishing characteristics of each, and to better understand the experience of Bnei Yisrael as they left Egypt. Students learned that challah needs yeast and time to rise, and is much fluffier and softer than matzah, while matzah takes much less time to bake. They also engaged in a grape-stomping activity to learn how to make the juice that is then turned into wine. They learned just what it takes to get enough juice to create four cups of wine that we drink at the seder.
