BPY fourth graders produced a beautiful and meaningful Heritage Fair this week through song and multimedia presentation, which was a culmination of their literature and Hhistory units. The classes shared the journey they took. Parents and special guests were invited to the Heirloom Museum at which the students spoke about their family heirlooms. The unit began with the students reading the book “Sign of the Beaver,” about Native American culture and heritage. The class connected the text to their own heritage and culture. The students picked a family heirloom, and in their writing, used “salsa” words to spice up their writing. The fouth graders interviewed a relative and created a class quilt representing their combined heritage. They mapped the locations of their relatives and recorded the data in graphs. This unit and fair integrated art, literature, writing, math and connection to home.
