Ben Porat Yosef students enjoyed being able to celebrate a chag together—Sukkot. It all began even before the chag started, with the school tradition of having the sixth graders measure, hammer, hang canvas and otherwise help to build a very large school sukkah. Their efforts were appreciated by the whole school, as every student had snack and lunch in the sukkah when they returned to school during Chol Hamoed. A beautiful part of celebrating Sukkot together took place immediately upon their return, as students participated in a meaningful tefillah, with the entire student body joining for a school-wide Hallel each morning. As a special Chol Hamoed educational treat, the whole school sang and danced together outdoors in front of the school building, with both Ashkenazic and Sephardic sifrei Torah, in mock-hakafot in order help the students prepare for Simchat Torah. Special programming also took place with gibushon (colorwar) and students were broken up into teams: sukkot, ushpizin, and arbat haminim. They enjoyed friendly competition in all areas, including sports, art, challenging academic games, halacha quizzes and more.
