Bring The Jewish Link Home

My trip home to America was full of highlights; I patronized the library, shopped at ShopRite and made the mandatory pilgrimage to Trader Joe’s. Most noteworthy of all though were the two Shabbatot I spent at home with my family, my mom’s food and, of course, The Jewish Link. As I sat down eagerly on Friday night for the paper’s first read (to be followed by the come-on-there-must-be-just-one-more-thing-worth-reading pass on Shabbat day), I noticed the pangs of jealousy I felt seeing headlines like “Now delivering to the 5 Towns!,” “This week available across Florida!,” “Soon expanding to all 48 contiguous United States!”

When my visit home came to its end, I bid a tearful goodbye to my family and zipped up my carry-on filled exclusively with the past five months of Jewish Links. Is this really what our commitment to Eretz Yisrael looks like? Only as deep as our wallets and our children, but sharing our newspaper is where we draw the line? As I sat this past Friday night in Jerusalem with a November copy of The Jewish Link, I wondered to myself, “Is this dream too great to ever become a reality? And, is Cedar Market still accepting Thanksgiving orders?”
