On Sunday, February 19, a women’s farbrengen was held at the home of Rabbi Mordechai and Shterney Kanelsky, executive director and associate director of Bris Avrohom Center, to commemorate the yahrtzeit of Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka Schneerson, wife of the Lubavitcher Rebbe. Mrs. Kanelsky related stories about the rebbetzin as well as accounts of mesirat nefesh (self sacrifice) of Jews in Russia, and she shared some of her own narratives. She also spoke about mitzvot related to women. Sushi and fabulous desserts were enjoyed by all. The event was sponsored by Mrs. Kanelsky in honor of her birthday.
Additionally, a group of 60 girls came from Moscow, under the direction of Mrs. Rivkie Wilansky and Rabbi Motti Weissberg, also to commemorate Rebbetzin Schneerson’s yahrtzeit. After visiting the rebbetzin’s ohel, they held a welcome session at the Bris Avrohom Center in Hillside, where they listened to inspiring stories of self-sacrifice from Rabbi Mordechai Kanelsky regarding the life of a Jew in communist Russia.
