(Courtesy of Bris Avrohom) On the fourth night of Chanukah, a 12-foot oil menorah was erected at Phil Rizzuto Park. The communities of Union, Elizabeth and Hillside were all invited to participate in the great lighting ceremony. The event was accomplished with the cooperation of the fire and police department of all three townships. A cherry picker was arranged to allow for the lighting of the candles.
Honored with lighting a candle were Felix and Sam Kanchik, Dovid Hoffer and Yanky Bennish. Upon igniting the impressive menorah, DJ Uri Abramov played music and the crowd danced to lively songs of Chanukah. All attendees were treated to hot cocoa, doughnuts and chocolate coins, and the children received Chanukah gelt.
Following the lighting, a parade of 50 cars was escorted through the streets of Union, Elizabeth and Hillside, making stops along the way to give people a chance to dance and feel the joy of the holiday. The parade was escorted by police in front and back, the DJ, and Union County Hatzalah.
Yoni Guigue of Hatzalah was extremely instrumental in organizing the parade. Two mitzvah tanks of the Lubavitcher bochurim of Crown Heights and Queens added to the joy and festivities. Rabbi Avremy and Chaya Kanelsky, youth directors of Bris Avrohom, coordinated the highly successful and entertaining evening.
