(Courtesy of Bris Avrohom of Fair Lawn) Bris Avrohom of Fair Lawn outgrew its current space long ago due to community and shul growth. To accommodate its needs, the shul members recognized there was an immediate need for expansion.
A rare opportunity presented itself to purchase the property on the corner of Fair Lawn Avenue and Saddle River Road, located just down the road from the synagogue’s current location. This building would be able to provide an immediate solution to the space situation and be able to serve as a community center for events, holiday celebrations, Hebrew school, teen programs and a preschool.
The synagogue leadership recognized this opportunity and began to move forward with the help of so many who believed in the project. They are thrilled to announce that this deal has finally been completed and on Jan. 30, Bris Avrohom of Fair Lawn closed on the property. The synagogue thanked all those who have helped bring the shul to this point, and its leadership is now inviting the greater community to be part of this historic growth in Jewish life.
This 30,000-square-foot building is now called the Jewish Education Center (JEC), with an already active preschool renamed the Alef Preschool, a huge social hall to host events and holiday programs for up to 300 people, and plans to create a contemporary teen lounge as well as spacious classrooms to more than double Hebrew school capacity and other educational classes and programs.
Not only will this property now remain a part of the Jewish communal infrastructure, but it will also serve as a center for Jewish education, which will have an impact on Jewish awareness and strengthen Jewish identity for generations to come. Bris Avrohom of Fair Lawn has taken a huge step in sustaining and growing Jewish life not only in its community but in the entire area.
The Jewish Education Center is already open and fully operational. On day one, Bris Avrohom of Fair Lawn launched Alef Preschool of Fair Lawn, www.alefschool.com for ages 2-5. With more than 40 children enrolled and with its warm and dedicated staff and directorship, this previously hidden gem will now be a space for all young families and children to get an early start in Jewish education and awareness.

The kickoff inaugural event is the annual Moms and Kids Hamantashen Bake on March 9, followed by Purim celebrations on March 13 for adults and March 14 for families with children, as well as a children’s model matzah bakery, which will be open to the entire community, date to be announced soon.
The 300-person hall at JEC is already booking events with February and March sold out. This premier venue offers high-end catering, state-of-the-art event resources, and an expert event manager to guide the community every step of the way, ensuring their dream event becomes a reality.
