(Courtesy of Bris Avrohom) On Sunday, September 18, Bris Avrohom will celebrate its 43rd Annual Dinner at the Sheraton Parsippany.
James Gill, general manager of New Jersey Airports, will receive the Community Service Award in recognition of his help and sensitivity to Jews traveling to and from Newark Airport. He granted consent to nine menorahs being placed around the airport—at the entrance, the headquarters and at terminals A, B and C. In addition, Gill was instrumental in obtaining permission for Bris Avrohom to have a Jewish information stand at Terminal B. At the stand, rabbis of Bris Avrohom help people put on tefillin, distribute candles to women to encourage them to light on Friday night, share thoughts on the weekly portion, and provide cards with tefillas haderech, the prayer for travelers.
Rabbi Avremy Kanelsky oversees and implements this successful program. He makes sure the staff of the El Al Airlines have everything they need for the holidays—from blowing shofar before Rosh Hashanah, to hosting Chanukah and Purim parties at the airport, to reading the Megillah and distributing shmurah matzah before Pesach.
The Bris Avrohom Jewish information stand at Newark Airport is already running for nine years and is responsible for thousands of people donning tefillin, many of them for the first time.
