Bris Avrohom Spreads Joy on Purim

Rabbi Mordechai Kanelsky recites Havdala Purim night.

(Courtesy of Bris Avrohom) Bris Avrohom spread joy and happiness to hundreds of people over the holiday of Purim. Mishloach manot were distributed, and the Megillah was read countless times at Bris Avrohom centers, at old-age homes, for inmates and privately for the home-bound. Wherever Bris Avrohom went, they gave people the opportunity to don tefillin and to give machatzis hashekel.

A grand Purim party was held Saturday night at Bris Avrohom Congregation Shomrei Torah Ohel Yosef Yitzchok, where over 300 people attended with their children in costume to celebrate the special holiday. The evening began with Megillah reading, Rabbi Mordechai Kanelsky read for the community, and Rabbi Avremy Kanelsky read separately for mothers of small children. A festive meal was served and the atmosphere was charged with happiness.

Another highlight of the holiday was the reading of the Megillah at all three terminals at Newark International Airport. Groups of boys from the Lubavitcher Yeshiva in Brooklyn came to read hourly at the airport throughout the day. In addition, mishloach manot, candles for women and young girls, and tefilas haderech cards were distributed, and many people put on tefillin there as well. El Al staff enjoyed a Purim party and had their own Megillah reading.

The well-attended Purim party at the shul and the highly successful airport project were both organized by Rabbi Avremy and Chaya Kanelsky.

At Bris Avrohom of Jersey City, Rabbi Baruch Lepkivker arranged the reading of the Megillah at the center as well as for seniors.
