Linking Northern and Central NJ, Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester and CT

Over the past week, Bruriah has had the honor of welcoming an exceptional lineup of speakers who have inspired and educated students.

The juniors were privileged to hear from Rabbi Dr. Stu Halpern, senior program officer of the Straus Center for Torah and Western Thought at Yeshiva University. He spoke about the influence that the Chanukah story had on the founding fathers as well as references that modern presidents have made to Chanukah as a point of inspiration in the fight for religious liberty.

The school was also delighted to welcome Nachliel Selevan, also known as “The Museum Guy,” for a pair of unique and interactive virtual tours for the ninth and 10th grade students. His presentations, “Transitions From East to West: From the Persians to the Greeks and what was happening in Israel,” and “The Dark Ages? Jewish luminaries and the development in Medieval times” offered students a deep dive into historical events and their connections to Jewish history which will provide added inspiration for this Chanukah.

As part of their weekly seminar course, the seniors were treated to an emotional and heartfelt discussion with Mrs. Fabiola Feld, former couture fashion designer who worked with VIP clients and celebrities. Mrs. Feld shared her personal journey of her conversion to Judaism, and she imparted to the students the importance of appreciating their Judaism and reminded them how privileged they are to be born Jewish.

The seniors were also honored to host Avital Chizhik-Goldschmidt, noted journalist, rebbetzin, and Bruriah alumna. She spoke about the challenges of balancing her professional passions while covering sensitive issues within the Orthodox community. She emphasized to the students: “It’s possible to be passionately frum and also be vocal and authentic to yourself and your faith,” cornerstones of a Bruriah education.

Bruriah is grateful to all the distinguished guests and speakers who have contributed to making this a memorable and enriching week for the students.
