Bruriah Alumnae Lead Beit Midrash Program

It is not unusual to see alumnae returning to Bruriah. Many return to visit and even more return to teach. The brainchild of Tovah Lejtman (’13), the Beit Midrash Program pairs alumnae with groups of students for lessons in Torah and life in an informal setting. The advisors take the opportunity to interact with freshman and juniors and also give back to the school. The students appreciate an alternative to classroom style learning. Fourteen advisors from communities including Passaic, Teaneck, Highland Park, Edison, West Orange, Hillside and Monsey have a rotating schedule for the weekly Friday course which is arranged in chabura-like groups.

Each group delves into different topics, watches relevant videos and participates in interactive activities related to their topics. Girls interact with other girls in their grade who they don’t always get to interact with. The students have an opportunity to ask questions and learn from girls just a few years older than they are and the advisors have the opportunity to teach, give back to the school, be role models for these students and also help guide them through the next few stages of life. Dassi Katzenstein (’15) sums up the Beit Midrash Program this way, “I am so happy that I decided to join this program. Being available and inspiring young kids is truly motivating and fun. I walk out of every session happy with giving over to the next generation.”
