Bruriah AP Bio Explores DNA Analysis

Last week, Bruriah’s AP Biology class took a trip to the Regeneron biotech company’s DNA Lab.

Regeneron biologists allowed the students to engage in a variety of high level research and STEM, as they were able to do hands on restriction enzyme digests, electrophoresis and DNA analysis.

This trip served to bridge the theoretical knowledge studied in class with real-world and life-changing applications of STEM. The students learned about how all of this is applied in areas of genetic engineering, biology research, and even forensics, thus further encouraging many of the AP Biology students who are interested in exploring a future in STEM.

This immersive experience left a lasting impact on the AP Biology students, with junior Yaffa Gottleib reflecting “it was so enjoyable. Gaining practical experience with this level of DNA analysis was an incredible opportunity.”
