Bruriah Celebrates Chanukah

The days leading up to Chanukah were filled with excitement, as Bruriah students were challenged to decorate their hallways. Each grade’s hallway came out magnificent! Students enjoyed an outdoor, physically distant chagiga, including inflatables, a bonfire and a barbecue.

On Wednesday, Mrs. Schwartz and Mrs. Skaist worked together to offer an inspiring yom iyun with a special appearance from known lecturer, Jackie Bitton. There was a beautiful kumzitz, yummy food and speeches from students, Daphna Hook and Ahuva Becker. The theme was ‘Elev8,’ where all gained insight on how to become better Jews in our everyday activities. Bitton spoke about how it’s never too late to change and build our relationships with Hashem. Senior Rena Feldman shared that, “She was incredibly engaging and inspiring. She shared her message through amazing storytelling. Her passion really was clear throughout, drawing me in. I would love to hear her speak again!”

Each grade had a Zoom Chanukah party with their teachers at night. The freshman played a Bingo game with the faces of the students and the sophomores enjoyed a bake-away. In school, the juniors received a mug and ingredients to make mug cakes for their Zoom Chanukah party. Junior Leora Goldstein created a game for her classmates where they watched short clips of different Bruriah videos and were quizzed on details. The juniors heard divrei Torah from teachers and students, Gabi Chamama, Odelya Ansel and Rebecca Guzman. Junior Ariella Konigsburg shared “It was really nice to get to see the faces of all my teachers and friends! Celebrating Chanukah together was so meaningful.” At the senior Chanukah party, there was a guest appearance from Mrs. Schwartz, who gave a dvar Torah. Tehila Hyman and Meira Strauss created a fun game to see how well the students know their teachers, which consisted of random fun facts about the teachers.

The week concluded with a Bruriah favorite, hot potato kugel. The entire Bruriah student community had a Blast during Chanukah.

Eliana Strong is senior at Bruriah. Shira Pfeiffer is a junior at Bruriah.
