Bruriah’s annual commemoration of the events of 9/11 gives the students pause, in part because of the magnitude of the catastrophe and in part because fewer and fewer girls were born by September 2011. Bruriah’s commemoration focuses on “what now,” rather than what happened then. Principal Rabbi Joseph Oratz introduced the program by speaking about shmirat halashon which was a perfect lead-in to the “what now” and how we can lend a helping hand, be kinder and gentler during both difficult times and happy occasions. Rabbi Oratz closed the program by leading the students in a perek of Tehillim.
