Bruriah Culture Club Heads to Broadway

On a bright Sunday morning in December, the Bruriah Culture Club stepped off the streets of New York City and into a Maycomb, Alabama courthouse. We experienced Harper Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird,” exploring the harsh reality of racism in Alabama in the 1930s. The Bruriah Culture Club started the excursion with a lecture from Touro professor, Dr. Adriana Schwartz and lunch, before heading to the theater. “To Kill a Mockingbird” was simultaneously hilarious, heart wrenching and eye-opening. The Culture Club left the theater with a new perspective and a wonderful appreciation for theater. The lecture in Touro afforded us a wonderful discussion about Atticus Finch and what it means to be a mockingbird. There were so many wonderful aspects to this trip that every student has her own highlight. We can’t wait for another amazing Bruriah Culture Club journey!
