Bruriah faculty members enthusiastically participate in an ongoing professional development initiative of peer classroom observations, fostering and modeling a culture of collaboration and growth. Throughout the course of the school year , faculty opened their classrooms to colleagues, creating a dynamic exchange of teaching practices and ideas.
“Professional learning is about opportunities to learn from each other,” explained Dr. Shira Hammerman, Bruriah’s director of Faculty Learning and Professional Development. “The goal is to really see everything we have been working on as a faculty come to fruition in the classroom.” This month’s classroom visits focused on exploring methods through which teachers can support and enhance student executive function, building on the foundation laid during previous professional development workshops.
History Department Chair Dr. Melanie Gottdenger was excited to avail herself of this opportunity and observed an honors math class taught by veteran Math Department Chair Mrs. Shira Strong. Dr. Gottdenger explained, “I chose to go to this particular class because I love Shira’s energy and I wanted to see how she operates in class. I was impressed with how fast she moved and how the students were able to match her pace.”
Bruriah’s intentional focus on faculty development and collaboration demonstrates the school’s commitment to refining teaching strategies and fostering an environment that maximizes joyful learning for all of its students.
