On Thursday, students had the opportunity to hear from Temimah Zucker LCSW, a body image, eating disorder and mental health therapist. She led important discussions with both high school and middle school students, focusing on key aspects of fostering body positivity and self-esteem.
In her session with the high school students, Ms. Zucker told the students about her journey towards a healthy body image as she battled her way through an eating disorder as a young adult. She addressed common misconceptions, myths and struggles surrounding body image and food, and offered practical steps to manage the students’ experiences with regard to body esteem and self-esteem. She also provided crucial information regarding eating disorder prevention, supporting oneself and how to support others if they are struggling.
In her subsequent session with the middle school, Ms. Zucker explored obstacles, practical tools and ways to increase the students’ self-esteem and body-esteem while promoting healthy habits and skills.
“We are grateful to Temimah for imparting her knowledge, expertise, and refreshing perspective to our students” said Dr. Sarah Mandelbaum, Bruriah’s director of Guidance. “At Bruriah, we are committed to facilitating these important conversations and supporting the social-emotional health of our students.” Bruriah is also grateful to the Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest for making this program possible.
