Bruriah Holds Winter Coat Drive

The signs read “We SNOW want you to donate a coat!” and Bruriah students listened. For the past two weeks, there has been a flurry of activity at Bruriah High School, where students in grades nine through 12 pitched in for the Coat Drive. Run by the student-driven chesed committee, the drive collected coats and sweaters for those in need. Bruriah’s very own licensed seniors delivered the coats to organizations, such as Yad Leah and Delivering Good. Both organizations specialize in giving clothing to those in need and Bruriah students were more than happy to help by donating their gently used coats to those locally and in Israel who can’t a-FUR-d their own.

“We chose to run this drive because it reminds us all that even things we think of as basic necessities [like coats] are not always accessible to everyone,” says senior Arielle Miodownik from Highland Park. “We need to recognize that everything we have is a bracha.” The coat drive, and the toy drive that followed, helped Bruriah students really absorb this message and proved to be a big success. The Bruriah chesed committee looks forward to including their fellow students in more amazing chesed opportunities in the near future.
