Bruriah’s yom iyun on Tuesday was a magnificent event. The day’s theme, “iMatter: Respect-It’s A Ripple Effect,” focused on how we can better ourselves and klal Yisrael as a whole through our interactions with others.
The event began with “Story Slam,” where several teachers and students told stories of an event in their lives where a single positive interaction completely changed a situation. This was followed by a video presentation of Bruriah students and faculty talking about their perspectives on respect towards themselves and towards others.
The school then broke off into smaller groups (following a snack, of course), where they brainstormed ways to incorporate respect into daily interactions. The event continued with guest speaker Toba Shifrin. Entertaining and hilarious, Shifrin captivated the audience in describing how we are all a part of the larger “machine” of klal Yisrael and everyone has a unique role to fulfill, and how it’s important to be cognizant of other people and their unique roles as well.
The day culminated with the whole BHS coming together to take on a kaballah, one unique way to harness what they learned and keep that inspiration going forward.
A tremendous thank you to all the superb grade advisors, as well as Yael Bleicher and Dena Lichtman for organizing this beautiful day!
