Every year, Bruriah’s junior high chooses one theme to focus on during sefirat haomer. This year, students are working on the basic, but valuable, concept of paying attention to the people around them and making sure not to ignore anyone. A “speed story” game, in addition to role-playing and discussions, brought this idea to life. Together, students and faculty discovered how often they have the opportunity to work on this, both in school and at home. Some scenarios which students acted out were ignoring a younger sibling who needs help, a parent who is calling you to dinner and a friend who is working with you on a group project. To keep up the motivation as they worked on this concept, each student received “mini-feedback notes,” which are to be filled out anytime and traded in for a small treat.
