Bruriah Junior High Students Present Science Research at Fair

Have you ever wondered what can happen if the immune system attacks itself? Or what color a tornado actually is? The students at Bruriah Junior High can tell you!

The JHB Science Fair was an enriching experience for the seventh and eighth graders who displayed their research and analysis in a creative fashion. Each exhibit consisted of a tri-fold display, an interactive activity and a visual. The seventh graders researched topics relating to Earth science while the eighth graders explored themes connecting to life science. Students presented their research to the AP Bio Juniors, the judges who circulated the room listening and asking questions. Science Department Chair Dr. Bracha Erblich and science teacher Mrs. Chaya Ettie Stewart deliberated over the scores with the judges for more than an hour.

The students acquired new skills throughout this project. Seventh grader Daphna Hagler noted, “I learned a lot of new and interesting information about my topic on tornadoes. In order to explain our research to the guests at the fair, I realized that I needed to understand everything very well.”

Mrs. Stewart offered instruction and support to the students throughout the process.

The contest winners were:

Seventh grade (tied for first place)

1st place “Earthquakes” by Naomi Kraemer and Aliza Walzman

1st place “Continental Climates” by Atarah Mandel and Eliana Strong

Eighth grade

1st place “Rattle your Bones” by Rivka Shapiro and Sara Shuman

2nd place “Breath of Life” by Michal Feder and Adina Solomon
