Bruriah Juniors Visit NY Historical Society

The Bruriah juniors took a trip to the New York American Honor Society last week. and toured three exhibits—one on the Salem Witch Trials, one on antisemitism in America during WWII and a third on the writing process of famous American biographer Robert Caro. The girls were asked to find objects, documents and images in the exhibits that engaged them. The guides then fostered conversations about the merits and weaknesses of each of those elements in historians’ work. The girls were thoughtful and eager to share their insights and observations as they learned more about the process of documenting history as well as the subject matter of the exhibits themselves. Bruriah junior Elisheva Finkelstein appreciated the trip, and expressed that, “it was nice to see what we’re learning in the classroom relate to so many topics outside of the classroom.”

”Our experience at the New York Historical Society beautifully augmented our study of “The Crucible” as well as the ongoing joint English/history assignments our students are working on,” said Margueya Poupko, director of Academic Enrichment. “ Seeing actual court transcripts from the witch trials and the drafts of a celebrated writer’s works illustrated the value of primary sources and humanized history, literature and the writing process at large.”
