Bruriah Kneads for Those in Need

Bruriah junior high students joined representatives from over 40 community partners from across Union County at the Community Challah Bake, held recently at the Community Food Bank in Hillside, New Jersey. The theme was “knead for those in need” and challahs baked were donated to kosher food pantries and other area agencies that deal with hunger.

“The Bruriah girls were fantastic,” said Lindsay Norman of the Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest’s NextDor division and Challah Bake event organizer. “They were so sweet, well behaved and engaged, and our leadership loved having them there.”

Joining the students were several Bruriah mothers, grandmothers, faculty and sponsors. “It was fantastic having them join us for this valuable program,”said Mrs. Zehava Greenwald, Bruriah junior high coordinator.

Besides kneading and braiding the challahs, the group participated in bagging large quantities of pasta.

“This was a chance for our students to use their energy and talent to help others,” Greenwald continued, “and it served as a reminder of how much we have in our lives to be grateful for.”
