Linking Northern and Central NJ, Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester and CT

Bruriah Lightning Soccer Clinch the Number Two Spot

It was Senior Night at Bruriah, and the Lightning celebrated the contributions of its eight seniors with a 7-3 victory over Kushner. The feisty crowd applauded captains Nikki Bick and Rivka Gutmann, Shira Fournier, Frayda Glucksman, Michal Hyman, Sarina Karfunkel, Freida Solomon, and Avigayil Wiener. Bick put the Lightning on the board at 13:40 in the first. She scored two more in the first, to close out the quarter at 3-0. Kushner scored early in the second before senior Michal Hyman scored with a goal of her own at 14:00. Shortly after Bick left the game with an injury, Ilana Markowitz gave the Lightning a 5-1 lead. At 1:52 in the second, Markowitz scored again off a textbook give-and-go from senior Avigayil Wiener. Kushner scored twice again in the third to pull within three, before Ally Orgel put the game out of reach at 8:56 in the fourth. Rivka Gutmann had 18 saves on goal and was supported with the fine defense of Dani Berlin, Miriam Brickman, and Rebecca Siegel. Bruriah finished at 7-1 and sealed a solid second place in the Western Division, its best record in school history. This was the last regular season game in the soccer careers of Bick, Fournier, Glucksman, Guttman, Hyman. Karfunkel, Solomon, and Wiener. The Lightning await the announcement of its first-round playoff opponent.
