The Bruriah Lightning is on an unprecedented fiery run this season as both the volleyball team and basketball team have blown away their competition all season to reach the Yeshiva League championships.
The volleyball final was held on March 16 at Bruriah, against Magen David. Bruriah had the home advantage because of their impressive 9-1 season record. The game was a tight one, yet Bruriah prevailed with a 21-16 victory, the first in Bruriah history.
Leading the team were alumni coaches Rebecca Van Bemmelen and Aviva Jacobs, and senior captains Chanie Klavan, of Highland Park, and Arielle Wenig, of Livingston.
On the basketball court, the Lightning basketball team had an equally outstanding season with a 10-2 overall record. Led by senior co-captains Ilana Markowitz, of Bergenfield, Rina Finkelstein, of Teaneck, Aliza Kurtz, of Passaic, and junior Talya Markowitz, of Bergenfield, the team will face off against SKA at Magen David’s gymnasium on Monday night, March 20.
