The Bruriah middle school basketball coach, Ayala Carl, began her first year as coach with a major dilemma. Thirty five middle-school girls tried out for 13 spots. The competition for the spots was tight enough for Coach Carl to hold a second tryout so she could look at the prospects more closely and eventually arrive at the final roster. The team keeps to a weekly practice schedule and eagerly anticipates its first game of the season, a home opener vs. Shulamith of Long Island.
The team speaks:
“Basketball is fun and exciting. It makes me try harder to reach my goal.” Mayan Kapustin
“I’m so excited to compete against other teams.” Elianna Glick
“We love our new coach. She’s awesome! She’s very energetic, involved with the practices, gives us good strategies and tips and keeps us motivated.” Aliza Walzman
“We have a scrimmage game the night before the first real game which is this coming Wednesday. It will be a great practice for us.” Eliana Strong
