Tuesdays are special for Bruriah Middle School. Each grade has begun what will be eight consecutive weeks of a specialty class. For the first eight weeks, the sixth grade will take art, the seventh grade will dance in Zumba and the eighth grade will learn aspects of health and wellness.
With the guidance of Zisi Freudenberger, the sixth graders are creating designs using their names and colors in art. They are learning to incorporate their personality into the pattern they created. As Aviva Strauss said, “We are able to put our creativity into motion on a piece of paper.”
Nesha Antelis is leading seventh graders in Zumba. The girls are expressing their creativity by moving around and pretending to be various objects. Tova Flint reported that, “It takes us out of our school zone. I feel free and relaxed for my next class.”
The Health and Wellness class in the eighth grade is led by physical therapist and certified health coach, Jacqueline Kimmel, who has a popular health coaching practice called Wellsquared Nutrition. “My goal is to empower and educate the girls on how to make healthy balanced choices when it comes to snacks and meals,” said Kimmel. “We will also be covering the importance of movement, hydration and sleep for feeling their best. The curriculum is designed to demonstrate that eating and living healthy can be fun through healthy chopped competitions, homemade snack making and yoga/stretching classes.” Amira Rosenfeld and Ayala Milstein stated, “It was fun to be creative with food and learn how to use a jicama in our meal.”
