Bruriah Sophomores Write It Right

Bruriah sophomores ended the year on the “write” note with yet another writing contest winner! Congratulations to Shoshi Cantor, who won $500 as a finalist in the Kaplun Foundation Essay Contest for her essay on how “Lo Tachmod” impacts interactions with social media. Congratulations to these other Bruriah sophomores who won awards in national and international writing contests this year: Yael Cohen, a Silver Key award in the Scholastic Writing Contest for her flash fiction piece; and Rebecca Guzman, Honorable Mention in the Scholastic Writing Contest for her short story; Kayla Schachter, Honorable Mention in Seton Hall University’s annual Women’s Studies Essay Contest for an essay about her grandmother’s accomplishments; Rikki Zagelbaum, second place in the NJCTE writing contest for her work of fiction, and 2020 NJ Governor’s Awards in Arts and Education winner.

At Bruriah, English language arts classes enable students to develop strong writing skills and take accountability for the writing process. Entering writing contests empowers students to publish their writing in contexts both inside and outside the classroom and gives them a voice to express their ideas to the world at large. Congratulations to all the winners on their writing accomplishments.
