Bruriah students were among the very few high schoolers in attendance at the annual Jerusalem Post Conference which drew hundreds of attendees at the Marriott Marquis in New York City this past Sunday.
The conference theme was “Israel-U.S. relations in the Trump era” and included topics as far ranging as opportunities for the peace process, the Middle East’s economy (including hi-tech, bio-tech, energy, cyber-security), BDS, Israel’s security challenges, and diplomacy and delegitimization — how to tell the truth in the U.N. and beyond.
“It was an amazing learning opportunity,” enthused Ellen Azizollahoff, Bruriah’s director of community services and AISAC.
“The students were exposed to a wide range of viewpoints and up-to-the-minute information from amazing speakers who are real authorities on the current situation in Israel. Bruriah brought their first group of students last year and the school was so impressed by how much the students had gained that they were excited to attend again this year.”
The high powered line-up of speakers included numerous chevrei Knesset, including Ayelet Shaked, Naftali Bennett, Yisrael Katz, Isaac Herzog, Avigdor Lieberman, Enon Elroy, Eli Cohen, Yuval Steinitz, Ofir Akunis and Gilad Erdan; Ambassador to the U.N. Danny Danon; two IDF Chiefs of Staff: Moshe Ya’alon and Dan Halutz; U.S. Senators Tom Cotton and Deb Fischer; Congresswoman Grace Meng; outspoken Israel advocate Professor Alan Dershowitz; Jerusalem Post Senior Contributing Editor Caroline Glick; and world-renowned interviewer Larry King.
Bruriah students who attended included: AISAC Head Shalva Eisenberg, AISAC Head Sasha Lutz, senior Ashira Pollack, junior Geula Rosenfeld and freshman Amalya Tolchin. Staff members included Joel Glazer and Ellen Azizollahoff.
