In seventh grade science class at Bruriah Middle School, students are diving deep into the concepts of motion and force. This past week, Ms. Wagner’s class was introduced to Newton’s first law of motion. In order to get a fully immersive experience, students were challenged to read an article from The New York Times Science section titled: “How to Keep your Jenga Tower from Toppling,” an article that discusses how Newton’s First Law can be applied to the game of Jenga.
The class was then divided into two groups, with the goal for the girls to apply their newly acquired knowledge on the subject to figure out and calculate which pieces would be the best ones to extract while trying to have their tower stand the longest.
