Bruriah students have started a new learning initiative, ובלכתך בדרך. Founded on the premise of encouraging students to take a more active role in learning, the program entails students electing to learn Friday afternoon on their way home from school, from an interactive parasha source sheet. The program attempts to make learning fun, meaningful and accessible for all students, therefore, ובלכתך בדרך caters to many different learning styles. The sheets let students explore various life themes alongside friends through a plethora of ancient and modern Jewish texts. The sources are punctuated by questions, PTPs (Points To Ponder), designed to encourage source analysis through sharing individual perspectives. “Learning with your friends is honestly the best relationship builder,” says one of the program’s co-founders Amalya Tolchin, who says she became close with co-founder Bracha Gluck simply through learning on the bus home every Friday. “We had been in the same class throughout high school but learning about each others’ personal feelings in relation to Judaic texts really sparked a deeper friendship.” Tolchin and Gluck hope to spread this connection throughout all of Bruriah.
