With the 2016-2017 season coming to a close, Bruriah’s Volleyball B team was determined to keep a hold on their coveted number one spot as they faced off against the SKA Sonics on unfamiliar ground. The Lightning came out strong and continued to dominate the volleyball court throughout the first game. Finkelstein (‘20) and Rhodes (‘19) bumped numerous balls repeatedly over the net, which the Sonics failed to return, while Miodownik (‘18) and Wenig (‘17) wowed the crowd with savvy serving. Bruriah easily claimed the first game within two matches, with scores of 25-16 and 25-11, respectively. Eager to prove themselves once and for all, the Lightning decided to bring their A-game and turn up the heat. Benoff (‘18) and Hook (‘18) each sent nine consecutive serves over, adding to the widening point margin. Goldman (‘19) was on fire as she and Klavan (‘17) set and spiked balls, despite the challenge the high net presented. As hard as they tried, the Sonics struggled to keep up with their fast-moving opponents and the Lightning took the second game as well, winning both matches with a score of 25-11. Still pumped up from their latest victory, the Bruriah volleyball team hopes to defeat Ma’ayanot this coming Thursday and claim a spot in this year’s championship.
