Bruriah hosted a yom iyun on Thursday, October 3, bringing students an opportunity to look inward and grow together. The theme was, “Teshuva….You’re Invited Back for a Second Chance.” The theme was based on a video called, “A Second Chance,” by Los Angeles-based Rabbi Yoel Gold.
Rabbi Gold pre-recorded a personal message to Bruriah students, introducing the main idea of the film.
The program began a week before the actual yom iyun with each student receiving a “promiyun,” an exciting video promo introducing the event and its theme. A student run choir presented a beautiful new song composed by Baruch Levine.
The girls experienced the inspiring words from guest speaker, Rabbi Ben-Zion Klatzko, the founder of Shabbat.com. Afterwards, they enjoyed a delicious snack of jumbo chocolate chip cookies and iced coffee.
The deep learning experience continued in the gym with open panel discussions where students and faculty were invited to complete intriguing and thought-provoking sentence starters about the challenges of meaningful teshuva. Students then watched a significant and relevant “Unetaneh Tokef” video (produced by SKA), which reviewed the key events that happened in Jewish communities in the year 5779.
The program ended with final thoughts presented by different students as to how to take these inspiring ideas and bring them to life in the Bruriah hallways. Taking action and inspiring growth was the best way to conclude this program and students benefited greatly.
