Camp Comes and Goes, But Campers Never Do

By Ariella Benson

Dear Ariella B.,

Our camp is ending and we are going to miss our campers so, so, so, so much! It was way too short—only three weeks, and it really flew by! We don’t know what we are going to do without seeing our eight spectacular campers each day! Who will go with us to an alpaca farm or the Vanderbilt house!? Who will go on the extreme rides with us at Lake Compounce?! It’s quite a dilemma and we are in great need of your wise advice.

Looking forward to your response,

Sad Suri and Tearful Tamar

P.S. Congrats on taking over for your sister! We are so excited for you and know that you will rock the advice column—just like you rock everything else.

Dear Sad Suri and Tearful Tamar,

I understand the ending of camp can be hard. You feel like all the fun is over, but it’s not true! Maybe some of your campers, or at least your favorite ones:), live close to you. Just because camp is over does not mean that you can’t still see the campers you loved so much.

Make plans to go to the same camp next year. I’m sure they miss you too and would be so happy to have you again as a counselor next year. But even if this experience is over, you gotta remember that change is a part of life. Even though it can be hard and sometimes upsetting, you gotta let it go. I hope/know your paths will cross again in the future, but not too soon … Didn’t you say one of the kids was a nose picker?

Until next week,

Ariella B.
