Camp Dora Golding Enjoys First Shabbos

The first Shabbos in Camp Dora Golding was simply magnificent. It began with our pre-Shabbos ESPN (Enter Shabbos Properly Now) voluntary learning program. Incredibly, 274 campers came to the shul a half hour before Shabbos to learn! The ruach and zemiros on Shabbos as well as the three hours of voluntary “Max Miles” learning were indescribable.

Motzei Shabbos night swim and leagues followed by Midnight Madness really hit the spot.

The exciting and competitive leagues are in full swing. The spectacular brand-new football field now has newly painted lines and markers and is a perfect addition to the stunning facilities. The new pickleball courts have also become very popular, with campers playing on them throughout the day.

On Tuesday, 14 buses rolled into camp to bring us on our first trip of the summer to watch the Scranton RailRiders (AAA affiliate of the New York Yankees). With over 700 campers sporting bright orange shirts proudly bearing the CDG logo, it was like an invasion of orange. Before leaving on the trip, camp voted on which player we thought would hit a homerun. If he did, the entire camp would celebrate with a special treat. Although he unfortunately didn’t hit a homerun, every time he stepped up to bat, hundreds of young fans cheered him on. The game was followed by an amazing firework show.

The camp season is cruising along.
