This summer, boys in grades five through seven from Teaneck, Bergenfield and Fairlawn joined the Camp Malchus STEM program. Located in Zichron Mordechai, directly across from Votee Park, campers were treated to an unforgettable indoor and outdoor experience! Each day started with davening and parsha challenges at Congregation Rinat Yisrael. The campers heard stories designed to inspire good midot and build emunah in Hashem. Next up was magic and coding with Judah Mantell. Campers kept impressing each other with the magic tricks they learned and were even motivated to show family members and learn new tricks on their own as a result of their new confidence in magic. It was amazing to see their self confidence rise as they learned how to interact with an audience. Mantell also taught the boys how to create computer games using a coding program—a very popular activity that even led to them creating many of their own games.
Following magic and coding, everyone went outside to Votee Park for some outdoor fun. The boys were introduced to many non-competitive sports such as capture the flag using tennis balls and All Out using pool noodles. Of course, the campers enjoyed playing whiffle ball and kick ball in a non-competitive spirit.
One of the greatest moments of the summer was the scavenger hunt at Glatt Express. Campers learned to read labels carefully and become good shoppers. They were rewarded with points that entitled them to purchase food at the store. It was very special to see how the boys pooled their money and purchased something collectively.
Engineering was also a big hit this summer. The boys were presented with challenges like creating a wheel with Pringles, making a maze with Play-Doh and creating fortresses with cups, sticks and wooden cubes. One of the most exciting challenges was using toothpicks and marshmallows to build structures.
Swimming was a favorite for many as they got to enjoy an outdoor pool, giving the boys a chance to socialize and take a break from their busy day.
Camp Malchus thanks all the campers for being part of the Camp Malchus experience this summer and invites all interested campers to visit their website at Campmalchusstem.com.
