Does your son love to play sports and swim? Do you want him to develop his existing skills and learn a few more in a heimish atmosphere? A group of parents who can answer the above questions in the affirmative, have found a match in Camp Malchus. The program is based out of the Jewish Center of Teaneck, and directed by beloved RYNJ rebbe, Rabbi Hoff; Rabbi Eytan London is the camp’s head counselor.
Rabbi Hoff told the JLNJ, “The mission of our camp is to offer the campers an experience that is Torah-based, fun and inspirational. From the hands-on learning of safrus to the inspiring stories sung with the guitar and enthusiastic davening, the campers are sure to gain on many levels.”
The Malchus day begins with davening and learning. Afterwards, campers delve into sports on the Jewish Center campus and at Memorial Park, where they play baseball and football. The day includes lunch, swim and then closes with mincha.
When JLNJ asked camper Dani Wolk about the lunch program at Malchus he said, “Lunch is awesome and delicious.”
Malchus camper Noah Gutlove told the JLNJ, “One of the most exciting times of the day is free swim. We play basketball and all sorts of fun games in the pool.”
At Camp Malchus the boys receive expert sports skills instruction as a central part of the program. On a daily basis, professional coaches train the campers in fun and challenging ways. Coaches Travis, Benny and MGBL’s Barry, teach soccer, baseball and basketball fundamentals. Thursday is an extended day: the boys enjoy a special show and a “schmooze” with Rabbi Moshe Tzvi Weinberg. So far, the campers have experienced a parkour show and the famous ‘Bumper Balls’.
In response to a question about the camp’s name, Rabbi Hoff explained, “Camp Malchus earns its name from its purpose and mission. A camp that has leadership qualities. A place where every camper can reign.”
