This past summer, Bergen County had a new exciting opportunity for girls. Camp Superstarz kicked off its inaugural summer with two weeks of amazing sports for girls entering grades 3 through 8.
Camp Superstarz is the brainchild of Rabbi Sariel Malitzky, Director of Camp Slapshots and a popular rebbe at TABC, and Rabbi Josh Kahn, Dean of Student Life at TABC and Director of Basketball at Camp Slapshots. Together, they envisioned a program which would provide girls with competitive sports games and instruction in a positive and nurturing environment. Using Camp Slapshots as a model, Rabbi Kahn and Rabbi Malitzky wanted to provide a program for girls who were interested in a one-week sports camp experience. Many of the campers have participated in various youth sports leagues during the year. At Superstarz, they were provided with fundamentals, drills, and coaching that will enable them to continue to develop their sports skills while having a great time.
Camp Superstarz ran for two independent weeks and was based out of The Moriah School. Over 30 girls joined Camp Superstarz each week and enjoyed personal attention from the amazing staff, all of whom were in college or older. Rebecca Pasternak, the Head Counselor, and Shira Miller, Assistant Head Counselor, grew up in Teaneck, had extensive experience playing on their respective school teams, and coached elementary school girls. Using the indoor gym, outdoor basketball court, and two fields at Moriah, the girls played basketball, hockey, soccer, volleyball, and softball. With six staff members for 30 campers, each camper received the personal attention which she deserves!
Superstarz was everything they envisioned and more! The girls had a blast! Check out www.campsuperstarz.com to learn more about the camp.
