Last week all of the RYNJ sixth grade students had the opportunity to spend time at Camp Vacamas Environmental Center in West Milford, NJ. On their athletic fields, wooded paths and ropes courses, the students worked on developing clear communication skills, team building and problem solving skills as well as critical thinking skills by accomplishing numerous challenges. Under the guidance of Camp Vacamas group leaders, the sixth graders were able to employ their fine-tuned collaboration skills as they helped one another and their group accomplish set goals through games and environmental activities. A Camp Vacamas group leader remarked, “One of your groups solved a task faster than college professors we’ve hosted. They’re one of the best groups we’ve had.” Our RYNJ students had a fabulous day of fun and learning, and returned to RYNJ knowing about one another and themselves quite a bit better.
