If I might add a brief complementary perspective. I was a graduate student at the University of Michigan in 1969-1970 during the intense anti-Vietnam War demonstrations. What we are seeing today on college campuses is NOT spontaneous—it is externally managed and resourced. Fortunately, we live in an open society—but there is a downside in that outsiders try to influence us. Be it Russia, Saudi Arabia, China— all have a vested interest in what goes on in this golden land of freedom.
