(Courtesy of CareOne) CareOne at Teaneck is a subacute rehab facility located in Teaneck, under the kosher supervision of the Star-K. There is a shul in the facility, minyanim on Shabbos and Yom Tov, a rav on staff and shiurim. CareOne at Teaneck has a wonderful activities department that personalizes activities to each resident which helps them on their individual road to recovery.
CareOne at Teaneck has two types of activity programs. Upon admission residents are identified through both the Allen Cognitive Level Screen (ACLS)and a leisure diagnostic measurement which focuses on the resident’s participation level, identifying their past, present and future interest.
Director of Recreation McNeil Cadet explained, “There is a Dementia Capable Care Program and a Subacute Independent Program. In the Dementia Capable Care Program we focus on a resident’s ability to function to provide a person centered care approach. Activities are switched every thirty minutes from cognitive memory programs, exercise, educational programs and more to avoid boredom. We also use technology in our program which is called Linked Senior. Linked Senior provides us with a daily magazine of current events and also historical events. Our sensory program includes a memory program which utilizes music and art which includes painting. All of the activity staff at CareOne at Teaneck received training for recreation based intervention for the treatment of ADRD, which stands for Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementia. Our second type of program is our subacute independent program. This includes a wellness exercise program twice daily, art workshops, horticulture in our courtyard and educational programs with local presenters such as teachers and rabbis.”
Simeon Ratner, a director at CareOne at Teaneck said, “There are many exciting activities year round related to the Jewish calendar at CareOne at Teaneck. During Chol Hamoed Sukkot, CareOne at Teaneck hosted a Sukkot carnival for the community and for the residents. On Chanukah many of the local yeshivas came to visit, sing Chanukah songs, bake cookies and light Chanukah candles with the residents. On Tu B’Shevat there was a Tu B’Shevat seder hosted by our facility chaplain, Rabbi Mordechai Feuerstein. On Purim the room was packed with local yeshiva students dancing, singing and giving out mishloach manot. Aside from activities related to the different chagim, CareOne at Teaneck also has challah baking every week, regular visits from the local Jewish community’s schools and shuls, concerts and regular shiurim for our residents.”
