The Jewish Learning Experience of Bergen County started 35 years ago as a grass roots organization. It was formed by Baalei Teshuva, secular Jews who had become observant through yeshivas who took in children from non-frum homes, kiruv organizations and just figuring it out. The organization was started as a form of hakarat hatov (thanks) to those who had helped its founders to become Orthodox and is run primarily by volunteers. As a result, JLE has been running free programming, including High Holiday beginner services, free of charge for the last 34 years. This year being our 35th year, we’d like to make a push to increase our attendance from about 150 people at Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services to 500, and we believe that with the help of the entire Bergen County community, we can. Every Jew is responsible for his fellow Jew and that includes spiritual growth as well. Over 30% of the Orthodox community in Bergen County are Baalei Teshuva so please show your thanks and urge your neighbors, co-workers, family and friends who may not be attending any services this year to join us at Ma’ayanot High School for Girls on September 30, October 1 and October 8.
We will be exploring the structure and meaning of the prayers in a comfortable atmosphere that encourages questions and discussions. There are no Hebrew knowledge requirements, nor are there any other knowledge requirements. We will be having kiddush refreshments after services on Rosh Hashanah and would be happy to set up meals and/or overnight accommodations for anyone who is interested. Regardless of background, join the Jewish Learning Experience for a meaningful holiday experience.
