Have you ever had a Jewish experience that was different than what you are used to? Where the Shabbat or Yom Tov foods are not necessarily the typical food that you grew up with? Where the ritual prayers do not sound anything like typical traditional tunes? Furthermore, did you ever hear about Jews who are not defined as Orthodox, Conservative, Reform or egalitarian? If you did not, you are among many people who fit that category. Sephardic Jews are in no way typical to what many of us are used to. Besides their background and their birth countries, their philosophy, traditions and way of life are unique.
Today, the Sephardic Congregation of Fort Lee consists of 100 families, many of whom are young families from around the globe (Jews from Morocco, Israel, Yemen, Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Sephardic and Ashkenazi alike). The congregation has daily, Shabbat and holiday services, and a community mikvah that serves the entire Jewish community of Fort Lee.
The congregation would like to extend a special invitation on Motzei Shabbat, April 7, 10:00 p.m., 2100 Linwood Avenue, apartment 2V, Fort Lee, for a Mimouna celebration, which is a special Jewish Moroccan celebration at the end of Pesach representing among many things, including the idea of renewal going into the new era of spring and summer.
