Central Jersey Counseling Practice Adds Staff With Specialized Skills

Talia Becker, who lives and practices in Highland Park brings significant experience to her psychotherapy practice, where she treats eating disorders, depression and anxiety. She worked in the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital’s Eating Disorders Unit for more than five years and has worked in private practice for over seven years, treating individuals, families and groups.

In addition to serving individual clients and families, Becker’s practice offers three group sessions — an eating disorder support group for women and men, an eating disorder group for religious Jewish women, and an eating disorder group for women in their 40s, 50s, and 60s. She is planning on launching a new postpartum support group for mothers in the very near future.

Becker’s perspective as a counselor is informed by her own life experience as a member of the observant Jewish community in Highland Park/Edison.

Becker recently announced the addition of a new staff person to her practice. Basya Pinter, LSW, who lives in Lakewood, is a licensed social worker in the process of obtaining her licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) certification. Pinter specializes in assisting women and girls struggling with depression and anxiety as well as a variety of feminine health related concerns. These include menstrual cycle, body image, pregnancy, postpartum, intimacy issues, motherhood, and others.

Pinter’s approach draws on both older and newer (evidence based) modalities to address the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of any issue. Her techniques include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), guided imagery, mindfulness, nutrition therapy, parts work, and therapeutic drawing and writing.

Becker’s and Pinter’s practice currently serves all clients via telehealth technology. The two therapists are licensed in New Jersey and New York.
